Damiano D’innocenzo

IMDb ↗

Italy · 1987

Damiano D'Innocenzo is an Italian director who, together with his brother Fabiano, forms one of the most interesting duos in contemporary Italian cinema. Born in the province of Varese, the D'Innocenzo brothers have developed a provocative and viscerally modern cinematic language, characterized by acute sensibility toward contemporary Italy. With works such as Favolacce and America Latina, the duo has imposed a distinctive visual aesthetic: aggressive framing, saturated colors, a mise-en-scène that does not fear artifice and expressive exaggeration. Their films investigate social pathologies, everyday corruption, generational unease, always maintaining a tone between the satirical and the grotesque. Their cinematography represents an act of dissent against conventional narratives, a will to dig into the interstices of contemporary discomfort with ruthless lucidity. Damiano D'Innocenzo (together with Fabiano) embodies an Italian nouvelle vague, a bearer of a vision that refuses any form of aesthetic and narrative compromise.
