Jafar Panahi
IMDb ↗Iran · 1960
Jafar Panahi is a master of contemporary Iranian cinema, whose career has been marked by both extraordinary artistic achievements and courageous political resistance. A student of Abbas Kiarostami, he has developed a narrative style that combines neorealism, improvisation, and profound humanity. Films such as The Circle and Taxi Tehran have conquered the most prestigious international festivals, establishing Panahi as a critical and poetic voice of Persian cinema. His insistence on denouncing social injustices and censorship in the Iranian system has, however, subjected him to persecution and bans: prohibited from directing in 2010, he has continued to make films clandestinely, transforming imposed constraints into creative opportunities. His cinematography represents an act of conscious resistance, where expressive form and political content become inseparably intertwined. Panahi remains a symbol of artistic freedom and civic courage in world cinema.
Jafar Panahi presented films at Rome Film Fest.
