Leos Carax

IMDb ↗

France · 1960

Leos Carax, the pseudonym of Alexis Duplico, is one of the most eccentric and visionary French directors of his generation. He emerged in the 1980s with films of extraordinary visual originality, characterized by a cinematographic prose that is dense, dreamlike, and radically anti-narrative. His work is traversed by an obsession with movement, urban choreography, and the investigation of characters' inner landscapes, filtered through a formally audacious and often enigmatic style. After a period of withdrawal from cinema, he returned with productions that maintain his distinctive signature: Annette, the 2021 musical film starring Adam Driver, represents a synthesis of his poetics, combining the lyrical element with an extreme and disturbing visual aesthetic. Carax remains a seminal figure in contemporary French cinema, an auteur who has consistently refused mainstream conventions and compromises, instead asserting a wholly personal and unmistakable vision.
